My name is Joseph Gritz and in 1931 when I was aged 8yrs old I lived in Bruce Road and I was asked to take food and run errands for Mahatma Gandhi. I did this many times during his stay at Kingsley Hall and I remember going up the stairs in Kingsley Hall and sitting with Gandhi in the small room/cell that he then occupied. I remember him talking very kindly to me and although I remember him as wearing strange white clothes (like a sheet wrapped around him) It was a great experience that I have never forgotten.
